The first 10(ish) times we attempted feeding Gwen baby food she sealed her lips tight and turned her head to the sides. She wanted to play with a toy or do ANYTHING but open her mouth and eat. When I told the doctor, she said 'oh sure, she resists the spoon.' She gave me a couple tips to try, including giving her applesauce or putting food on her hands to seeing if she'll bring it to her mouth.
(We can't give her finger foods yet because she doesn't have ANY teeth yet.)
In the last week she's made some major improvements. She is somewhat more willing to eat apples rather than the pears, prunes and rice cereal we tried before. And now we've learned that she's willing to open her mouth if she's holding onto the spoon. Hmmm. This could be interesting. :)
Novia always ate better if she had something in her hand to hold onto as well. I thought it was a sign of control, but it never developed into that. I still have no idea why this trick helped her eat.... it certainly isn't the case now. Something in her hand now can distract her from food for hours. =) Anyway, there is grace for spoon/toy-holding babies.
ReplyDeleteGwen sure is adorable even with food on her face. =) Audri is "lovey-talking" to her picture right now. Lovey-talking is how she talks to Elijah. =)
Good to know about Novia. :) So sweet to think about Elijah and your girls together too. (And amazing to think it's not long until your boy joins the fun!)
